Реферат: The problem of constructing approximate confidence limits for a proportion parameter of the Polya distribution is discussed. Three different methods for determining approximate one-sided and two-sided confidence limits for that parameter of the Polya distribution have been proposed and compared. Particular cases of those confidence bounds are confidence intervals for the parameter of the binomial and the hypergeometric distributions.

Реферат: The specific focus of this paper is on the relationship between real Kazakh GDP, real exchange rates and oil prices - using time series data for the period 2000-2010. Multivariate VAR analysis and Granger causality tests are carried out using both linear and non-linear specifications to capture oil price change effects. Our work finds evidence of both linear and non-linear impact of oil price shocks on real GDP and real exchange rate. We also find that one of the key effects of oil prices on real economic activity relates to the real effective exchange rate. Though, oil price changes do not have a measurable direct impact on real GDP of Kazakhstan, they are shown to clearly indirectly affect it through their effect on real exchange rates. Indeed, results of the Wald, Granger multivariate causality, and Likelihood Ratio tests indicate that linear price change (and all other oil price transformations) is significant for the Kazakh system as a whole.
Political Economy of Central Asia: Initial Reflections on the Need for a New Approach
Реферат: This article aims to give an overview of the analytical approaches to political economy of Central Asia. It argues that twenty years after transition paradigm we still find lingering separation between politics and economics that compartmentalizes studies of economic development, nation- and state-building into separate projects. The analytical separation between economics and politics creates two crucial problems for scholars of development in Central Asia: the suspense of theorization of economy and lack of attention to the new practices of governing.

National Culture vs. Corporate Culture: Recruitment and Selection Practices of Multinationals in a Developing Country Context
Реферат: The present study critically assessed interaction and dominance of host country national culture vs. corporate culture of European MNCS in Bangladesh. A qualitative research strategy, i.e. case study method was used for the study. Data were collected through in -depth interviews, participation observation, collection of annual reports and unpublished company documents. The HRM practices of MNCs seem to be influenced by both the national culture of the host country and the corporate culture of the parent company. It revealed that corporate culture dominates in most of the cases in recruitment and selection practices of MNCS in Bangladesh. The influence of national political parties on organizational HRM practices also became significant and important factor in Bangladesh. MNCs operating in other Asian countries could get some insights from the study and develop their HRM practices accordingly.
Societal institutions and HRM practices: an analysis of four European multinational subsidiaries in Bangladesh
Реферат: Using the \'societal-effect\' approach, a variant of the institutional theory developed and tested in Europe, this study investigates the impact of societal institutions on human resource management (HRM) practices of European multinational subsidiaries in Bangladesh, which is now on the list of the Next-11 economies of the world. In-depth case studies of four European multinational subsidiaries revealed the presence of different degrees of influence - partly attributable to societal effect - on the human resource practices of these subsidiaries. Our study added a new dimension to the interface between the strong and weak institutions and how such interfacing accords both legitimacy and reverse legitimacy to MNC subsidiaries and their societal institutions respectively. Another interesting finding of the study is the emergence of political system as a societal institution and, hence, a determinant of HRM practices in these subsidiaries. The study\'s implications are given.

Реферат: This study explored adoption of new HRM practices in the public and private sector organizations of Bangladesh. We collected data from sixty industrial enterprises located in the main industrial city of country, i.e. Chittagong. The study revealed significant difference on adoption of new HRM practices between public and private sector industrial enterprises of Bangladesh. Employees in the private sector organizations appeared to be more satisfied than public sector organizations with organizational HRM practices.
